FRIDAY FICTIONEERS

Hey there folks, this is my third attempt at FF (I think I’m going to count every attempt I make, the way its going), and I’m super delighted to write here again! FF is hosted by  Rochelle, who chooses a picture prompt every week, on which we are to write a 100 word flash fiction. The word limit may exceed by a few words, you will not be pounced upon for that. This week’s interesting photo is by Dawn M. Miller.

Here are my 100 words 🙂

GENIE IN A BOTTLE

“Have you seen the lamp?” Ali demanded of his wife Sara.

“What lamp?”

“The magic lamp, of course! I need the genie to run an errand.”

“Isn’t it one of these?” Sara gestured towards the wide array of lamps set on the shelves.

“Those are for the shop, foolish woman! When will you learn to recognize the real one?”

Ali stormed out. Sara smiled and withdrew something from a cabinet. “Whew!” huffed the Genie. “Thanks so much! It was hard enough working for Aladdin and his three generations, and now a fourth! I get tired too, you know!”

Hi! I'm Sam, an 18 year old certified mad chick who likes to imagine that she can write. I live in India, a colourful, diverse country which is sadly getting polluted everyday by more and more violence....something no citizen can be proud of. I enjoy reading-basically horror, watching romcoms and horror flicks(yes, again horror, my favourite being Sinister- its psychotic just like me), eating( food, oh yes, I love foooooood), attending college, and most of all(oh, do stay and listen a while longer) I love animals. I have periodic urges to own and look random "pets". Currently I wish to own a baby elephant, which I will name Thama. I write to express what I feel, to keep that small creative bone alive in my body, and to make readers happy. I hope you like what I write!

  1. Very entertaining, AnElephant loves it!

  2. Aww,what a cute story Sam!Poor genie-to have to work for 4 generations-argh! Good that Sara is ready to give him a break 😉 Loved the dialogues 🙂

  3. I wouldn’t mind one of those genie lamps myself – the fence needs fixing.

  4. A really cute and humorous story and good dialogue. I can just see that poor tired genie.

  5. Ah poor Genie! I’m glad someone is finally looking out for him 🙂

  6. Aladdin is a fierce taskmaster and is not treating his genie very good. If I was genie, I would call his Union Rep and file a complaint with the Labor Board. Tsk Tsk – 4 Generations is way above the general guidelines and Ali knows this. Good story! Nan

  7. Dear Tinkerbelle,

Clever look at things from the Genie’s point of view. If I had a one, though, I’d certainly take advantage. Good one.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

PS I’ve kept count of my FF stories since I started in April 2012. Haven’t missed a week and am about to hit 100. I’ll announce it when I do. 😉 Also I’ve printed each one off and keep them in a notebook.

  8. Nice twist tinkerbelle96! Maybe the genies should unionize and establish best practices in the workplace or this particular genie could start their own blog to rail against their employer(s). 🙂

  9. It could be named “Genies In A Blogroll” (see what I did there?…cough…)

  10. Interesting take…we rarely think of the genie as the slave that he truly is.

  11. Hey tinkerbelle :
Lucky Geine that to get such a ‘saviour’ 😛
Cute story this and you’re great at dialogues

P.S. I always thought Genies were much like house elves – running after work 😛

  12. I think that the genie has ceased doing miracles and have to run errand… sooner or late he will be on strike… I like the flow of this…

  13. I think it would be good karma to befriend an overworked genie.
