Wedding Vows

Friday Fictioneers

This is my first attempt at writing 100 word flash fiction for Friday Fictioneers. Rochelle Wisoff-Fields is our gracious host at FF. The challenge is to write a 100 word flash fiction based on the photo prompt chosen by Rochelle. This week the photo is by Bjorn Rudberg.

Here are my 95 words.

Just because I’m dead, doesn’’t mean I’m not here, Bill grumbled often to himself. The past four years had been comfortable enough for him. He loved his Miriam enough to be happy just seeing her everyday. He’d thought that she had loved him too. But then Alan came along with those ugly flowers and that bucktoothed smile, and now Miriam was leaving her Bill alone! That would not do. Hadn’t she promised to love him and only him forever? Miriam would have to keep her wedding vows. Bill would see to it.

Hi! I'm Sam, an 18 year old certified mad chick who likes to imagine that she can write. I live in India, a colourful, diverse country which is sadly getting polluted everyday by more and more violence....something no citizen can be proud of. I enjoy reading-basically horror, watching romcoms and horror flicks(yes, again horror, my favourite being Sinister- its psychotic just like me), eating( food, oh yes, I love foooooood), attending college, and most of all(oh, do stay and listen a while longer) I love animals. I have periodic urges to own and look random "pets". Currently I wish to own a baby elephant, which I will name Thama. I write to express what I feel, to keep that small creative bone alive in my body, and to make readers happy. I hope you like what I write!

  1. Angry spirit alert! I’d like to see where this goes next.

  3. Fab first go, welcome aboard, it soon gets addictive 🙂

  4. Bill sure is one obsessive husband-even if he is dead ;-)Welcome aboard Sam:-)

  5. Congrats on joining! This week was my first time back in simply ages (and I’d only done a few before). I hope you enjoy it. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your spirited writing!

  6. Bill is going to exact some revenge. Miriam will be sorry she did not understand the same as he did.

  7. Oh my poor widow. Good story welcome to the Fictioneers.

  8. Welcome to FF. I warn it ts terribly addictive. Bill is about to begin rattling. Hope his beloved is ready for ghostly revenge.

  9. Brilliant shift in mood. Look forward to reading more of your work.

  10. Welcome to FF…and I don’t blame your guy. A promise is a promise! 😉

  11. Welcome to FF! You’ll love it here. Nice bit of writing.

  12. Dear Tinkerbelle,

Welcome to Friday Fictioneers. Consider yourself invited and not barging in. 😉 I’ll warn you that once you’ve joined it’s hard to leave.

I enjoyed your unique take on the prompt. Afraid Miriam’s in for a rough go. Nicely done.

  13. Spooky! And Bill seemed so nice at first. Kinda felt sorry for him, being dead an all.

  14. Oh dear. Poor Miriam. Nasty Bill. Lovely gem of flash.
    Welcome to FF.

  15. Ah, the eternal struggle in two people’s understanding of one emotion – of one being “left behind” by the other, who in this case I’m sure felt very much the same.

I really loved this piece – I can’t wait to see more.

  16. a very sinister ending. i might do the same in case i die first 🙂 lol i definitely enjoyed reading this. 🙂 welcome to FF!

  17. Sam, welcome to the Fictioneers. I guess “until death do us part” didn’t quite work for him. 🙂 A jealous ghost sounds like a recipe for disaster!

  18. Welcome to FF. Well done with this 🙂

  19. Wonderful first try! Happy you’re on board…

  20. Welcome Tinkerbelle! You will soon see that this Friday Fictioneers becomes and addiction, and the community is wonderful! So, welcome. Wonderful story, that leaves this reader hanging for more… 18 years old! Wow. You go for it, and write! I am a huge fan of India (I’ve brought 2 of my 3 kids there, and the 3rd and I will go next year)… where are you? What part of India? Welcome.

    • Thank you! You’re very kind to welcome me like this, I don’t feel nervous anymore 🙂 I live in the City of Joy, Kolkata. Its humid and congested but the food’s great and so is the history associated with this place. Where in India did you visit? Let me know! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂

      • I have visited Delhi, Varanasi (my favorite!), Jaipur, Jaisalmere, Agra, Cochin, and parts of the south… love it. I haven’t been to Kolkata… yet. 😉

      • Oh I’ve never been to western India, that is Rajasthan, Gujarat and the nearby places, but I’ve always wanted to. I’m so glad you enjoyed. Do make plans on visiting north eastern India sometime! You’re sure to love it 🙂

  21. Welcome to FF!
A great start with a psychotic ghost on the loose. You have to let go and move on, Bill (I don’t think he will though, I think Miriam and Alan are in for a tough time 🙂 ).

  22. I think he’s just insulted by her choice of his replacement–“ugly flowers and that bucktoothed smile”. He wouldn’t have minded it so much if she’d chosen a classier guy–would have reflected better on him.

  23. Brilliant, this is only my second time at Friday Fictioneers and your right when you say everyone’s so friendly, they really are 🙂 Well done by the way 🙂

  24. Bill will see to it, so he shall! Just imaging a pissed spirit targeting Alan

  25. Wow, you are good at creepy! I would like to know how he got back at his beloved wife. He must be in a vase? Well, you will do well with this – I’m impressed and thanks for the vivid vision in my mind. Great! Nan

  26. Good story! It sounds to me like he’s on the mantlepiece watching from an urn. Makes me wonder how he’s going to keep Miriam from the guy she likes.

  27. welcome to FF! I am only her since a few month but I enjoy it very much and I improve my English…
a really spooky story, I wonder what Bill will come up with next ! Thanks for sharing,
    liebe Grüße

  28. I guess he missed that part in the vows that said “until DEATH do us part.” Or maybe he just doesn’t want her to marry some dorky looking guy with poor taste in flowers. 🙂

  29. A belated welcome here.

  30. Hi there, everything is going well here and ofcourse every one is sharing facts,
that’s really good, keep up writing.
